At Phenom BJJ, our adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program is designed to provide high-quality training in a controlled and safe environment. Our instructors prioritize safety, ensuring that each movement is taught with care and precision.
Fundamentals Class
Our Fundamentals Class covers the basic techniques and fundamental movements of Jiu-Jitsu, including essential self-defense strategies. Students will learn:
- How to fall and stand up safely
- Engaging and controlling opponents
- Escaping holds
- Applying basic take-downs and submissions
These foundational skills prepare students for all subsequent levels of BJJ training.
Basic Jiu-Jitsu Positions
- Guard: Any position where your legs are between you and your opponent, allowing you to use the strongest muscles in your body (hips and legs) to defend and control.
- Mount: When one person is lying down with another on top above their hips. This is a powerful position, particularly advantageous for the person on top.
- Side-Control: Controlling an opponent from the side without the involvement of their legs.
- Back: Known as the "human backpack" position, this is one of the most powerful positions in Jiu-Jitsu, providing control from behind.
Basic Jiu-Jitsu Submissions
Our program includes instruction on basic submissions, which are allowed at beginner levels:
- Chokes: Applied to the carotid arteries, not the trachea, ensuring a gentler and safer technique.
- Arm bars: Targeting the elbow joint.
- Shoulder locks: Targeting the shoulder joint.
- Basic foot locks: Targeting the ankle and foot.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program Overview
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that emphasizes grappling and ground fighting, focusing on leverage and proper technique to gain dominant control and resolve conflicts using submission holds.
