Professor Martin teaching the kids BJJ class

Head Instructor

Professor Martin Morachimo

Professor Martin Morachimo is the Head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor at Phenom BJJ in Orange County. With 24 years of experience in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he has an impressive array of accomplishments.

Martin began his BJJ journey under Roger Machado, one of the five world-famous Machado Brothers, in December 2000. After eight years, he aspired to play an even larger role in the sport, leading him to train with Romulo Barral, a world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player and multiple-time international and world champion. Under Professor Romulo's tutelage, Martin honed his technical BJJ skills, competing as a brown belt and winning the 2011 Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championships. This period also prepared him for his role as a black belt instructor.

Martin began teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu full-time in 2009, initially serving as the head instructor of Gracie Barra Santa Ana for three years. His dedication and passion for teaching led him to open Phenom BJJ in 2014, where he has been instrumental in building a strong and supportive community.

Professor Martin has a unique perspective on BJJ. He believes Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone—from professional athletes and retirees to elementary school children seeking discipline and a sense of unity. He views BJJ as a means to focus on the mind and body while providing stress relief. He emphasizes that the challenges in Jiu-Jitsu often mirror those in life, teaching us to be comfortably uncomfortable and demonstrating that there's always a possibility to overcome obstacles and rise again.
